Do you think Iwade could go the distance?!
It's that time again when the Kent Village of the Year competition opens, each year in a different format. This year villages are being asked to submit up to 5 exemplary community activities.

The competition is organised by Action with Communities in Rural Kent and sponsored by the Kent County Agricultural Society. Kent Men of the Trees also donate a tree to the winning village.

Communities are asked to consider their strengths in four themes - Social Action, Transport, Economic Development and Environment.

Last year we won a runner-up prize for the broadband project but this year I would like to put forward 5 projects.

The Iwade Observer springs to mind with its team of volunteers from editor, printer, distribution through to delivery, the new (biased me?!), the fantastic Iwade Village Market (every first Sunday of the month 10am to 1pm at Iwade Village Hall), the Iwade Village Hall Committee who are this weekend hosting the first Iwade Rock @ Iwade Summer Fayre and the flourishing new Iwade Allotments.

We have a lot to be proud of in Iwade and I'm keen to put us forward.

The deadline for entries is 5th September. If you are someone involved in one of the projects I've named or want to put another project forward that I've missed contact me at

Here's the entry form for you to have a look at ...
