Were you disappointed you didn't get involved in the recent DIY SOS project on the island well now is your chance to get involved in Iwade! After many months (years) the Iwade barn is ready for work to start on the internal alterations now that the Iwade@TheBarn trust has obtained Listed Building and Building Control consent. Local company Knauf has kindly said that they will donate materials and may also be able to help with labour but we are going to be reliant on other trades and expertise to complete the task ahead and get the barn ready for use. None of the trustees are professionals with this sort of project and if anyone is willing to help we would like to know. We already have a list of people who have come forward offering help and we’ll be contacting them at some point soon.

Money to get this done is a hurdle we have with so far the parish council and local councillors granting money to the trust to keep things going but we will need to start looking at other funding streams and also any trades who would be willing to donate their time would be highly welcomed.

Due to everyone on the trust being volunteers we are doing the works piece by piece (unless anyone wants to take on the whole project) and the first trade we will be in need of is a carpenter or any other tradesperson who has experiences on installing load bearing beams. These beams will be the joists above the kitchen and toilet area and comprise of No11 200x50mm joists with a 22mm chipboard covering. Along with this if anyone has the time is to install the stud work ready for the partition walls. Once done we can then move on to the electrics and plumbing.

If you are able to assist in our first big step please get in touch by email at or text or telephone James on 07788 101228

An exciting project to be involved in.
